Justin Timberlake’s recent engagement to Jessica Biel had fans everywhere clutching their chests in swooning defeat, many of them flashing back to the curly-haired cutie who first stole their hearts in the late 1990s. Now he’s getting married to his on-again-off-again beau, Biel. It’s a shame that he’s not on the market anymore, but who could blame him? Biel is sexy. Better yet, who could blame her? He’s sexy, talented and successful. Or maybe she had one of the following convincing love songs in her head when she said yes.
“Senorita”
What if this is the song that describes the couple’s first encounter? The story tells of Timberlake running into a girl with brown eyes on the street in tears, and telling her “Senorita/I feel for you.” It’s a long shot, but it’s still romantic. He reasons with her and consoles her, saying, “She deserves a crown/but where is it now?” It is assumed that the two then retreated to Timberlake’s NYC loft where they fell in love and fell into bed because she was so overcome by his words.
“LoveStoned (I Think She Knows)”
The real poetry doesn’t come in till the second half, where Timberlake breaks down the song along a rhythmic guitar and violin accompaniment. After a crazy instrumental interlude and some real true-love testaments, the song trails into a music outro featuring vocal improvisation by the sexy singer. Let’s just say that we hope he hums for her like he did in the end of “LoveStoned.”
“Tearin’ Up My Heart”
This might be the couple’s unofficial love song. Last year, they broke up for a period of time, but it seems that they couldn’t stay away from each other for long. “It’s tearin’ up my heart, my heart, when I’m with you,” the lyrics go. Months later, they reunited and rekindled as if no time had passed, citing, “but when we are apart, I feel it, too.” Let’s hope their breakup wasn’t nasty, a la “What Goes Around/Comes Around.”
“Rock Your Body”
This can be constituted as one of the sexiest songs of all time. Acting as a staple of American pop-culture history, it provided the soundtrack to the iconic moment at the 2004 Superbowl Halftime Show which had Janet Jackson naked by the end of the song, in homage to the highly suggestive lyrics. If Timberlake and Biel remain faithful, they’ll be rocking each other’s bodies ’til death do them part.
“Where Is the Love?”
Biel is an American charity activist who even runs her own charity organization. She and Timberlake make a great pair, given his notable contribution to charities himself. Timbo’s addition to this Black Eyed Peas song gave it the star power it needed plus the vocal essence of gold that drove it to great success. It’s song about togetherness and charity with a positively united chorus. You can bet that Biel found his guest appearance here adorably dedicated.
“(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time on You”
Ain’t that a way to make a woman feel special. There’s no blood on Timberlake’s hands for the corny lyrics here because, thank goodness, all he did was sing it. And that he did. The broken-down pop sound to this tune allowed for the most intimate setting for the boys to lay down their sultry vocals and ideally wholesome words. This song might even stand the test of time, continuing to make Biel fall to her knees for Timberlake even when they’re old. The classic melody could easily convince any lucky woman.
“This I Promise You”
Timberlake might as well have been singing this instead of trying to win her over with tacky “always and forever” sort of lines. This song about commitment couldn’t ever be denied because it is so romantic and charming. The high-pitched “’Til the day my life is through/This I promise you” is an incredibly fitting allusion to the end of time.
