written by: on January 30, 2012

The Grammys and documentarian Amir Bar-Lev are bringing Re:Generation to a theater near you. The film aims to explore the discourse of musical history and dares to imagine its future.

Re:Generation features five musical collaborations between an influential contemporary electronic producer/DJ and an iconic musician of a certain style. Re:Generation will have a one-night only release in over 170 theaters in select cities on February 16, 2012 and an encore screening a week after on February 23, 2012. The soundtrack features the songs created in the film and can be downloaded for free.

Re:Generation pairs Skrillex with members of The Doors for “Breakn’ A Sweat.” The Crystal Method teams up with Martha Reeve of the Vandellas and The Funk Brothers to make “I’m Not Leaving.” To create “A La Medeliste” Mark Ronson collaborates with Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste and members of The Dap Kings. DJ Premiere utilizes the talents of NAS and the Berklee Symphony Orchestra and creates “Regeneration.” Last but not least, Pretty Lights constructs “Wayfaring Stranger” with LeAnn Rimes and Dr. Ralph Stanley.

New remixes of these collaborations have been made by Zedd, Bonobo, Apathy, Static Revenger while Pretty Lights contributes a second version of “Wayfaring Stranger.” The remixes can also be downloaded for free using the widget above.
