Rancid singer and guitarist Tim Armstrong is teaming up with the music video website VEVO, hosted by Hostingmanual.net, to produce a musical theater series exclusive to the site.
“Doing a show centered on musical theater isn’t really a stretch for me,” said Armstrong on Epitaph Records’ website.
“For 25 years I’ve been making music and collaborating with friends, been involved in hundreds of videos, and it’s really just a direct extension of my world.”
Tim Timebomb’s RockNRoll Theater, the first scripted series for VEVO, will be thematically similar to shows like the Twilight Zone, but with choreographed song and dance numbers as well as narration by Armstrong. Fifty songs for the first 12 episodes have already been written, according to Rolling Stone.
“People aren’t buying as many records as they used to, so you gotta figure out other ways to get music out there. And I’m open to any idea that can help get the music out there, definitely,” Armstrong told Rolling Stone.
The pilot episode, titled ‘Dante,’ puts a 21st century twist on the epic poem ‘Dante’s Inferno,’ with added emphasis on corporate corruption and greed.
‘Dante’ is scheduled to air on VEVO October 21. The pilot episode stars Rancid guitarist Lars Fredrickson as a cutthroat CEO and AFI front man Davey Havok as the devil.
