Pop trio Hanson, known for the 1997 No. 1 hit “MMMBop,” have announced they’ll be brewing their own brand of beer, “MMMHops.”
Zac Hanson, the youngest of the three brothers, made the announcement Monday at an Oxford University speaking engagement. The Indian Pale Ale will be released in early 2012.
Hanson said that while making records is fundamentally what the band does, they wanted to create a brand so that their fans will have a greater experience.
Hanson fan Breanna Banford said via Twitter, “my favorite band when I was 8-years-old is coming out with my favorite type of beer.”
The band recently finished a South American tour supporting their 2010 album Shout it Out, and that might be the last full-length album from the band for a while.
Zac Hanson told Billboard.com in September that because the music industry has changed so much, band might release multiple small projects.
Hanson isn’t the first band to market their own beer. British group Elbow developed Build a Rocket Boys Beer, and Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott released a lager known as Down ‘N Outz.
