Frank Ocean Kicks Off Tour in New Orleans

written by: on November 7, 2011

A sold-out crowd surrounded black-suited Frank Ocean on Saturday night during his first solo performance at New Orleans’ House of Blues.

A victim of Hurricane Katrina, the R&B crooner was happy to start things off in the place where he originated.

“This is my hometown,” he announced during his performance of his personal hits as well as songs he penned, such as “No Church in the Wild” and “Made in America” off of Jay-Z’s and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne. Donning a red bandana tied around his head along with his suit, Ocean led the crowd through renditions of Beyonce’s “Miss You,” a song he wrote for the pop diva, as well as Sade’s “By Your Side.”

Using a laptop and digital screen as his only accompaniment, the Odd-Future affiliate experienced minor technical difficulties, but he finished off his concert well, not only impressing the crowd, but also his fellow camp members who were seated off in a sectioned-off area of the venue, as reported by hip-hop magazine Rap Up.

“Frank First Show Last Night Was So Fucking Awesome N*gga. I Almost Cried Cause A N*gga Was So Excited,” tweeted  Tyler, the Creator.

However, late Sunday night, Ocean posted an update to his website saying he became sick and had to cancel his Bowery Ballroom show in New York.

Ocean is expected to continue touring across the U.S. as well as overseas this month. Check out a few of his tour dates below and keep checking Pop ’stache for updates.
