Longstanding hardcore label Rise Records added Lansing, Mich.’s Cheap Girls to its roster on Wednesday.
The pop-rock trio is set to record the follow-up to its sophomore full-length, 2009’s My Roaring 20’s, with Against Me!’s Tom Gabel producing. Rise Records also updated its Youtube channel with a new Cheap Girls demo titled “Cored To Empty.”
Rise’s signing of Cheap Girls marks the second high-profile addition to the label, as earlier this year Rise said it would release a reunion album from post-hardcore act Hot Water Music.
These two signings stand in stark contrast to the rest of Rise’s roster, which boasts popular metalcore acts such as Attack Attack! and Bleeding Through.
To address a potential backlash from fans of the label, Rise posted the following on its Facebook page along with the signing announcement: “Core Rise fans….have some respect and cherish diversity. We can’t sign all screamo bands, okay?? This is what you’ll be listening to when you’re a little older so consider it a gift to you, from Rise.”
No release date has been set for the new Cheap Girls album, but the group is projecting the album to drop in Spring 2012.
