I’m a little surprised that The White Stripes lasted this long. They are a good band, and have released some seriously great tunes, but, honestly, how long can a two-piece rock duo who rely so heavily on their coordinated wardrobe last? The band announced today that they are calling it quits. And it’s sad in the way that finishing a good book is sad: It’s over, but the band’s absence isn’t taking anything away from us.
In their official statement they said
The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”
So I guess the question now really is: What do we want to do with the White Stripes?
