The Los Angeles police gave Odd Future frontman Tyler the Creator an early Christmas gift late last week: a pair of handcuffs.
The controversial and outspoken singer/rapper was arrested late Thursday night in Hollywood after a show at the Roxy theater, according to an exclusive report from TMZ.
Police said they had arrested Tyler after they got a report that he “destroyed an electric soundboard belonging to the venue.”
While the show was shut down for about a half hour, no injuries were reported. But Mr. the Creator was arrested in front of his own mother.
Seeing as how Tyler recently told The Fader he considers Odd Future to be a punk band, his arrest seems to fit in with some of punk rock’s more anti-authority ideals. Though, how petty vandalism relates to thoughtful rebellion remains to be seen.
“I’m in a punk band. It’s called Odd Future. But I really wanna be in a [rock] band. Rock bands are way cooler than rappers, in general. When people make end of the year lists, I wanna be near Trash Talk and The Strokes or some shit instead of fucking rappers that’s up-and-coming. I hate that shit. That shit sucks,” Tyler said in the interview.
