This Day in Rock: Oasis Join the “Mile High Banned Club”

written by: on February 23, 2012

On February 23, 1998 Liam Gallagher from Oasis were banned for life from Cathay Pacific Airlines.

On a flight from Hong Kong to Australia for tour the band got rowdy and deeply offended passengers and crew. Complaints were made that the band members hurtled objects at people, smoked and verbally attacked others. One report claims that lead singer, Liam Gallagher, threatened the pilot with a scone.

Oasis’s acts were declared to be “abusive and disgusting behavior.” Cathay Pacific Airlines was not impressed with Gallagher’s creative use for breakfast pastries and made the decision to ban the members after reviewing and discussing television interviews with the musicians pertaining to their bad conduct.

Spokesman, Chuck Fai Kwan, stated “Passenger safety is most definitely a priority at Cathay Pacific. We go to great lengths to ensure our operations are safe and never hesitate to take any necessary cause of action when safety is in question.”

On the reaction to his manners Liam claimed he would rather walk anyway.

This is not the only place members of Oasis are not welcome. Oasis are banned from ever stepping foot into China due to their support of Tibet.
