The Promise Ring has reunited for a second time and to celebrate the band has two shows scheduled for February and plans to release a “rarities album.”
Tickets are supposed to go on sale today, Nov. 25 for both the Feb. 24 show at Turner Hall in Milwaukee and the Feb. 25 show at the Metro in Chicago, however neither of the venues’ websites list dates or tickets for the shows.
The band will perform with what is being referred to as their “formative line-up,” which includes singer/guitarist Davey von Bohlen, drummer Dan Didier, guitarist Jason Gnewikow, and bassist Scott Schoenbeck, according to Alternative Press.
Opening acts have not yet been announced.
The prominent emo-rock band hinted at the possibility of a reunion through the cryptic message, “Hello, again…” on their new Twitter account late last week.
The Promise Ring began in 1995 as a side project for Davey von Bohlen during his time as guitarist and vocalist for the Chicago emo-band Cap’n Jazz.
Following the release of Wood/Water in 2002 and the band’s subsequent break up, von Bohlen and Dider went on to form Maritime with former members of the DC based indie-rock band The Dismemberment Plan.
The Promise Ring reunited briefly to play the Flower 15 Festival in 2005 at the Metro in Chicago.
The band also plans on releasing a rarities collection through Maritime’s label, Dangerbird Records. Dider told Alternative Press the collection will include “one song from the Wood/Water session that didn’t make the record…”
“From there [after the release of the rarities album] we will look into potentially doing more shows throughout 2012,” he said.
The collection is scheduled to drop summer 2012.
