If you’ve ever been curious as to what went on in Rivers Cuomo’s head while he wrote and recorded Pinkerton, wonder no further. On Dec. 12, Cuomo will release a collection of journals, emails, letters, photos and school papers the singer wrote from between May 10, 1994, the day the Blue Album was released, until 1997.
Included in the aptly titled Pinkerton Diaries is a 237-page, three-pound hardcover book, in addition to Cuomo’s “lyrics sheets, music compositions, and studio notes during the Pinkerton sessions,” according to the Weezer front man’s website.
Set to drop the same day as The Pinkerton Diaries is the third edition of Cuomo’s demos, Alone III. Cuomo’s website calls the Alone collection “an essential component of The Pinkerton Diaries,” and “listening to Rivers’ home demos from this period further connects the dots and allows you to see the beginning, middle and end of how life turns into music.”
Alone III contains early versions of Weezer classics such as “Getchoo,” “Susanne,” and “Tired of Sex” as well as previously unreleased tracks. Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo, the first in the series, was released in December of 2007, and Alone II dropped in November 2008.
Alone III and The Pinkerton Diaries are available for pre-order now on Cuomo’s website.
