Last year, R.E.M fans everywhere were saddened to hear that they would be disbanding after 30 years. The band released fifteen studio albums in all, calling it quits after Collapse Into Now.
Fortunately for us, Peter Buck, the band’s guitarist, has decided not to enter the world of retirement just yet.
Recently, Scott McCaughey, session and touring guitarist for R.E.M., sat down with Seattle Sounds and gave news that he was helping Peter Buck work on his solo album.
Seattle Weekly reports, “McCaughey had no details on when the record would be completed or when it would be released, but he did say that it’s possible that Buck will sing on the record – but not to expect him to do the same live.”
Buck also plans to release the album on vinyl, with no mp3 download.
It’ll be exciting to see what the “man behind R.E.M.’s sound” will put together. Check back for more updates, as they will hopefully come soon. Until then, enjoy some classic R.E.M below.
