On This Day in Music History: Rest in Peace The Notorious B.I.G.

On March 9, 1997 Chirstopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G. was shot and killed, he was only 24 years old.

It has been fifteen years since the renowned rapper The Notorious B.I.G.- was shot and killed. His death would be a tragic consequence of an East Coast versus West Coast feud. On the evening of March 8, 1997 the New York City native Big Poppa/Biggie Smalls attended the Soul Train Awards in Los Angeles as a presenter. At the time, Biggie Smalls was also promoting the upcoming release of his second album Life After Death.

Around 1 AM on the morning of March 9th Christopher Wallace left an after party following his appearance at the Soul Train Awards.. It is reported that a black Chevy Impala drove up beside him and the riders of the vehicle shot him. Wallace was transported to an emergency room but did not survive and was pronounced dead.

To this day his murder remains unsolved. His second album was released two weeks after his death. Life After Death rose to number one on the Billboard charts.
