Amy Winehouse's posthumous third album will drop in December.

New Amy Winehouse Album Coming in December

written by: on November 1, 2011

On Monday, Island Records posted an update to Amy Winehouse’s website promoting the Dec. 5th release of her first, and possibly only, posthumous album titled Lioness: Hidden Treasures.

The 12-track album will be a collection of alternate versions of existing tracks, and new and unreleased material.

Amy Winehouse, a deep-voiced R&B/jazz/pop singer, died in July of alcohol poisoning, and the beehive-hairdo-wearing songstress apparently left behind hours of recorded material.

Winehouse’s producers, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, said “they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy,” according to the singer’s website.

Remi told music magazine NME the release of this new album will not start “a Tupac situation”, where a flood of new material is published after her death, similar to the seven albums released by rapper Tupac Shakur after his untimely death.

Since the release of her 2003 debut album Frank, Winehouse earned numerous international music awards, including five Grammys for her 2006 album Back to Black.

Most recently, the singer’s final studio recording, a duet with jazz legend Tony Bennett called Body and Soul, was released on September 14, 2011, which would have been her 28th birthday.

As a musician who died at the age of 27, Winehouse belongs to an infamous group dubbed the “27 Club“, whose members include other notable musicians – like Kurt Cobain, and Jim Morrison – all of whom died before reaching 28-years old.
