Guided by Voices, whose reunion album Let’s Go Eat the Factory drops in stores Jan. 17th, has a new single available for download.
The track, titled “Doughnut for a Snowman,” can be downloaded for free here.
Vocalist Robert Pollard told Rolling Stone the song is literally about doughnuts. He said he melded together a song title he wrote in a notebook ten years ago to a Krispy Kreme doughnut jingle he never submitted.
The group hasn’t released an album of new material since 2004’s Half Smiles of the Decomposed, and the original lineup hasn’t put out news music since 1996’s Under the Bushes, Under the Stars.
Even with new music due out soon, the band backed out of a London concert set for next year.
Guided by Voices cancelled a May 2012 appearance at the All Tomorrow’s Parties’ “I’ll Be Your Mirror” festival in London, and a band representative said they are cancelling their appearance due to personal reasons.
The band has already begun working on a second post-reunion album, which will be titled Class Clown Spots a UFO. Pollard will release a solo record in March.
