Fans of Fleet Foxes have plenty to cheer about this week, but they’ve also got something to lament.
Two members of Fleet Foxes have announced a new side project, and while they may still be a part of the band, J. Tillman has permanently left .
Poor Moon, which features Fleet Foxes bassist Christian Wargo and keyboardist Casey Wescott, has just signed to Sub Pop.
Wargo and Wescott have been with Fleet Foxes since 2008. Wargo will be fronting Poor Moon and will handle songwriting duties.
Wargo and Wescott will be joined by Ian and Peter Murray. The Murray brothers were a part of The Christmas Cards and met Wargo and Wescott while Fleet Foxes were touring around San Francisco in 2008.
Poor Moon will be releasing an EP titled Illusion on March 27, 2012. You can listen to and download “People in Her Mind” in the widget above.

Now for the bad news. J. Tillman, the man behind the drums since 2008, announced he is leaving Fleet Foxes.
Tillman quietly announced his departure on his Tumblr on Wednesday saying “Farewell Fleet Fans and Friends. Back into the gaping maw of obscurity I go. Tokyo is my last show with the Foxes. Sorry if I was distant and obtuse if we ever met. Have fun.”
