Digable Planets is reportedly set to reunite and planning a comeback tour for 2012.
For the past few days internet music news sources have been buzzing with rumors of the jazz/hip-hop trio’s return, but no official statement has been made by the band or its representatives.
Citing unnamed sources, AllHipHop.com reported on Saturday that all three original members – Butterfly, Cee Knowledge and Lady Mecca – are working to finalize tour dates for next year.
The group is schedule to perform with the U.G.O. Crew at the Brooklyn Bowl in New York on Dec. 20 and Conga Room in Los Angeles on Feb. 3. The two rap groups will be releasing a joint album from their 2010 tour at the end of January, according to OC Weekly.
The group’s debut album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) went gold in 1993 and the album’s lead single “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” earned the trio international recognition after peaking at No. 15 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and No. 67 on the UK Singles Chart.
The group split up shortly after their 1994 sophomore album Blowout Comb citing creative differences, though they’ve reunited a few times since.
Since 1994 all three members have pursued solo projects.
