Chicago Internet Radio Station Hosts Record Crawl

written by: on October 26, 2011

CHIRP Radio, a Chicago-based internet radio station, is hosting its first Record Crawl in the Windy City on November 13.

CHIRP, or The Chicago Independent Radio Project, has mapped a “specially curated route” of record stores in Chicago for supporters and volunteers to follow. Think of it like a bar crawl, only with record stores instead of pubs.

Participants will get discounts and free gifts for joining in the Record Crawl. Oh, also, the record crawl is free and open to the public.

The event will kick off at Atomix Coffee Shop at 11 a.m., the schedule is as follows:

11am – Atomix Coffee Shop, 1957 West Chicago Avenue, where participants can pick up their Record Crawl badges and enjoy coffee at 10% off.  From there, the crawl will travel to Permanent Records, 1914 West Chicago Avenue.

12 noon – Dusty Groove Records, 1120 North Ashland Avenue

1pm – Favorite Records, 1535 West Division Street

2pm – Lunch Break

3:30pm – Saki, 3716 West Fullerton Avenue

4:30pm – Logan Hardware, 2410 West Fullerton Avenue

5:30pm – Laurie’s Planet of Sound, 4639 North Lincoln Ave, for the CHIRP Record Crawl After Party! Eat, drink and listen to great music curated by fellow crawlers and you! Donations encouraged for food and beverages.

The volunteer-run, music-, art- and culture-focused station currently runs in a live online format from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. 365 days a year. The station transmits from its studio in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood. According to the CHIRP Radio website, it is “working to change the law at federal level to open up new licenses in urban areas, and hopes one day to be able to apply for a low-power FM broadcast license as well.”

CHIRP Radio is a non profit organization that is supported by listener donations, small grants and event revenues.
