Black Flag Reunites (Sort of) for a Weekend Show

written by: on December 20, 2011

Three members of Black Flag played a short, impromptu reunion set this past weekend. Early Saturday morning the band announced its presence on the bill for Goldenvoice’s 30th Anniversary’s Sunday set via facebook.

Founding members and one half of the line-up for the band’s debut EP, “Nervous Breakdown,” (Keith Morris on vocals and Chuck Dukowski on bass) took the stage along with the band’s ‘81-‘85 drummer Bill Stevenson and Descendents guitarist Stephan Egerton.

The band played “Nervous Breakdown/Fix Me,” “I’ve Had It,” and “Wasted” among others, before the Descendents’ ended the three day Goldenvoice Anniversary festival with their set.

Goldenvoice, a production company with roots in the ’80s Southern California punk scene, lined the bill with “the very bands who helped propel the organization out of the seminal LA scene” according to socalmusictoday.com.

Gary Tovar, Goldenvoice founder, said the line up was “chosen to reflect the bands that embraced and were instrumental in building Goldenvoice from day one. “Like us, they had just the right screws loose,” he said. Tovar also attributed the success of the production company to the support of pivotal bands in So Cal movement.

Other bands on the festival bill included: Social Distortion, X, Adolescents, Bad Religion, Youth Brigade, T.S.O.L., The Vandals and The Dickies.
