Tell us how you really feel, Billy. During a one-on-one conversation with author Brian Solis at SXSW the Great Pumpkin had some strong words for the current state of the music industry.
Billboard reported Monday that the 44-year-old rocker said, “I was part of a generation that changed the world – and it was taken over by poseurs.”
The music magazine said Corgan talked about how he’d have to set himself on fire to get noticed on YouTube. He also blasted some current breakout artists calling them prostitutes and strippers who value fame over respect.
“[Artists that break through now] have grown up thinking that being famous is the goal,” he said, according to Billboard. “Not to be respected – not to be dangerous.”

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman will also make an appearance in a documentary, titled “Sunset Strip,” which will have its world premiere at SXSW on Friday.
The Smashing Pumpkins ninth album, Oceania, is due out in June.
