It’s official: the Beach Boys are reuniting for a 50th anniversary tour, and the band has already recorded songs for a new album.
This comes after months of speculation and rumors, according to Rolling Stone.
The Boys were originally going to announce the reunion plans at the Grammy nominations special last month. But now Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks will appear at February’s Grammy event with something “really exciting” planned, according to Jardine.
The band is also working on a new untitled studio album to be published by Capitol/EMI records, in addition to another “best of” album and a box set.
The Beach Boys recently dropped a deluxe edition of the previously unreleased 1966 album Smile. According to the New York Times, the album wasn’t finished at the time due to Brian Wilson’s emotional breakdown and a legal battle with Capitol records.
In a press release published on Brian Wilson’s website Friday morning the band said it would kick off next years’ 50-date tour with a “headlining performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (“Jazz Fest”) as well as other exciting events to be announced.”
According to the release, Wilson said “This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again.”
