Atlas Sound’s New Album is Streaming

written by: on November 2, 2011

Atlas Sound, Brandford Cox’s solo project outside of Deerhunter, has a new album on the way.

Parallax is set to be released on November 8, 2011, but The New York Times is letting you stream it one week early.

In addition to the stream, the NYT has included some great insight from Cox himself as he analyzes and discusses four of his favorite songs from Parallax. Cox suggests “The Shakes” may be about Howard Hughes, Kurt Cobain or Elvis Presley, but it’s definitely about fame and money. Cox also said MGMT’s Andrew Vanwyngarden played piano on the track “Mona Lisa.”

No matter the interpretation or insight, Parallax feels like a Bradford Cox album with his characteristic lo-fi pop.

Bradford Cox has been plenty busy these last few years, delivering five studio albums between his bands Atlas Sound and Deerhunter since 2007. Atlas Sound released Logos in 2009 followed by a series of bedroom recordings. Deerhunter released Halcyon Digest in 2010.
