The Canoes – “American English”

American English

The Canoes is a four-piece garage Americana rock band from Evanston, Illinois. In May of 2011, the group released its locally praised debut album, Roger. Loud Loop Press wrote, “Their songs drip blue-collar folk and Americana from every fuzzy guitar lick, acoustic strum and downright earnest croon.” It’s clear the group has an innate ability to create unique and interesting songs.

Back in January, The Canoes decided to re-record and re-polish a single of “American English,” one of the album’s catchiest tunes. This time around the production quality is exceptional, giving the track an extra punch of energy and us a solid preview of where this band is heading. Seriously, try to resist lyrics like, “up those school punks, lose those swim trunks; take me to the lake. Your legs my legs, my hands your hands, let’s be each other’s first mistake.”
