Funeral Home – “Here Below”
Twin brothers Taylor and Jamison MacKillop make up the band Funeral Home. Originally from Chicago, the duo now creates music over long distance, as one brother resides in Indiana and the other in Virginia. “Here Below”, taken from Funeral Home’s forthcoming self-titled EP, is only the third song these two have released.
The track does a great job highlighting the duo’s ability to create digestible shoegaze with a slight 90’s alternative twist. You might even call them a subdued version of the Smashing Pumpkins. Starting with a melancholic wall of distorted guitar, the track slowly builds until the 1:30 mark when everything gets pulled together, dropping in drums and a siren-like synth melody. It is at this point when you should be really feeling the song, entranced by its calming haze.
