Crush, Wild Vibes, and Hausu Bacndamp Hunter picks

Bandcamp Hunter: Weekly Picks (August 6, 2011)

written by: on August 6, 2011

Crush – Crush EP

While there may be an excess of dream pop emerging from Brooklyn at the moment, Crush are impossible not to like. The blissful pop on this EP has a dark edge to it, with just the right amount of distortion and melancholy lyricism to contrast the summery feel. The influence of Real Estate, Beach Fossils and Teenage Fanclub is obvious but it doesn’t take away from their charm.

Wild Vibes – Wild Vibes EP

Also from New York, Wild Vibes are a psychedelic pop band with many dimensions. Opening with a sparse piano piece that melds into pulsing electro-pop, this EP is full of infectious and intriguing pop music. “Innate” may be the best song here with it’s expansive feel and irresistible groove, while “Oedipal Love” masterfully combines 60’s soul with modern indie-pop.

Hausu – EP

There’s only two tracks on this EP from Portland band Hausu, but they show great potential. “Weaving Spiders” is a terrific example of well crafted guitar pop, loaded with gorgeous hooks and a rousing chorus, while “She’s A Babe” is similarly appealing. The only problem with this release from Hausu is there’s not nearly enough of it, but it’s always good to be left wanting more.
