I think the lesson learned from Arcade Fire/Spike Jonze short film Scenes From the Suburbs is: the place you grew up and the way you remember your teenage years are the most depressing things ever. But, don’t worry, it is still a great way to spend 28 minutes on a Monday morning.
The clip follows a group of kids growing up in a suburban town locked down by military forces, but tells the story that it is more important what happened between yourself and friends than what was happening on a larger, more abstract scale. Which is probably the way most people view their upbringing – the music you listened to, parties you went to, fights you had, first kisses; all of them are more memorable and more groundbreaking for you personally.
