David Byrne is the type of guy who is perpetually the exact definition of cool. Writing books about riding his bike in different places around the world, making buildings into playable instruments, teaming up with indie hard-hitters (like Dirty Projectors on Dark Was the Night), it’s like he can do no wrong. Arcade Fire are on that same path, but with much less history behind them. They are being a cool indie band on essentially their own terms, unlike anyone else out there, and getting recognized for it with Grammy’s and cred galore.
The award-winning The Suburbs will get a deluxe release this fall, featuring the Spike Jonze-directed short film Scenes from the Suburbs, and new songs “Culture War” and Byrne collaboration “Speaking in Tongues.” The BBC debuted the two new track on the air yesterday. Check out “Speaking in Tongues” below.
