Y La Bamba – “Squawk”

on January 17, 2012

Squawk

Portland based group Y La Bamba combines traditional sounds of Luz Elena Mendoza’s (lead singer) Mexican heritage with elements found in modern folk music, to create a sound uniquely described as mariachi-inspired folk. In the group’s song “Squawk,” delightfully rich, Fleet Foxes-like vocal harmonies sit atop a swift background of nylon-string guitar and a percussive waltz. The group’s forthcoming album, Court the Storm, will release February 28th.
