Rubbing Alcohol – “Kinks”
on December 12, 2011
Rubbing Alcohol is a new side project of Bear Hands’ bassist, Val Loper. Its two-song debut release, simply titled EP, has a nice bass-heavy post-punk/new wave sound. The lead track “Kinks” is smoother and at times more lush than its counterpart. The changing instrumental layers throughout the song are especially intriguing. One of the most impressive parts comes around the 3:30 mark when everything sort of comes together, including a real slick guitar solo.
As of now, there has been no word of any future releases or tour dates. You can keep an eye on what Loper has in store via his twitter account, @RubbingValcohol. Also, don’t forget to head over to the bands’ Bandcamp to pick up the second song on the EP, “Travel Channels.”
