Magic Trick – “Invisible at Midnight”

The band Magic Trick, lead by Tim Cohen of The Fresh & Onlys, released its sophmore album, Ruler of the Night, on June 12th. The album’s second single, “Invisible at Midnight,” does a fantastic job showing off Cohen’s ability to craft a song. Starting slow, depressive vocals are surrounded by the contradictory sounds of flutes, bongos and a melodic steel-string guitar. Cohen sings of transformation and death. It is almost as if he’s regretfully dying and this song is his ceremony. It eventually builds to a joyous and celebratory chorus, which in the end is the true payoff.
