BBU – “The Hood” ft. GLC
on February 22, 2012
Epic, Illekt, Jasson Perez, and DJ Esquire make up the Chicago-based hip-hop crew BBU. If you haven’t already heard of these dudes, they are known for mixing floor bumpin’ dance beats with socially conscious lyrics, a style especially heard in songs like “Chi Don’t Dance” and one of their newest, “The Hood,” featuring CHI legend GLC.
“The song is about how people can be judged for speaking slang, and how it can make others look at them as being uneducated,” explains Illekt. “But slang is such a great thing, because it’s who we are and it represents our generation.”
“The Hood” ft. GLC can be found on BBU’s recently released bell hooks mixtape, which is available as a free download at the group’s Bandcamp page.
