Digging through vinyl records & LPs

Free Music: April 4 – April 8

written by: on April 9, 2011

For those of you who only stop by on the weekend, we’re starting a weekly recap of our MP3 section. Monday was a busy day and the perfect MP3 selection escaped us so we packed extra punch into Tuesday’s release.

Tuesday

Gypsyblood – “Take Your Picture”

Let’s put it plainly. This is one of the most exciting bands in Chicago right now. Their debut release comes out on Sargent House this Tuesday and you’d be doing yourself (and those around you) a favor by picking up the vinyl. Check out our 4/5 ‘stache review.

Wednesday

Low – “Especially Me”

A free download from the new record, C’mon, that’s out on 4/12. Simple but driving instrumentation paired with Mimi Parker’s classic vocals make this track stand out as a single. Stay tuned for a full album review.

Thursday

We Are Augustines – “Chapel Song”

Bill McCarthy and Eric Sanderson, previously of Pela, make up the duo We Are Augustines. “Chapel Song” is immediately accessible and you’re likely to find yourself coming back to it a few more times.

Friday

Slowdance – “Spell”

A nice mix of country and indie, the new single “Spell” puts Slowdance on the map. We’ll be eagerly awaiting the release of an official album that has yet to be announced.
