Yung Jun “Yung Jun” instantly gets you moving with its rolling synth-bassline and drum combo. Pretty quickly the song builds, layering guitars, ambiance, cowbell, hi-hat and vocals. Tammar, Dave Walter and crew, do a great job moving the song forward while keeping the same groove throughout.

Heather Zambri’s song “Heather” is hauntingly beautiful, showcasing their ability to create mesmerizing instrumental parts based largely around their own vocal tones. It’s a talent most artists aren’t brave enough to experiment with, especially in pop music. The group’s debut EP, Glossolalia, will be released Nov. 8 on Kanine Records.

Still Doing It ft. yU Rock Creek Park, by Oddisee, may be one of the most inspired albums of the year thus far. The almost entirely instrumental album is an interpretation of a park (Rock Creek Park of course), inspired by the D.C. producer’s lifelong relationship with it. The composition has an old school hip-hop […]

Pot Luck “Pot Luck” was included on A Lull’s Confetti Reprise EP, a follow-up to their debut album Confetti. No Me Gusta La Pepsi We get it, you don’t like Pepsi. My imagination takes me to Lenguas Largas tearing apart a dive diner in Texas because a rude, and slightly hot, waitress gave them Pepsi when they asked for Coke. Clearly, the song “No Me Gusta La Pepsi” totally rocks. At just more than two […]

Mtns Are Mtns Forest Fire’s new song “Mtns Are Mtns” is soulfully obscure. One highlight is definitely the male/female vocal harmony about 50 seconds in. It adds a whole new level to the singer/songwriter style that is taken on from the beginning. Also, apparently we’re closing out pop songs with saxophones again. Did anyone see that coming?
